Give Your Stimulus BACK!

There's no real way to sum this up. Wait, there is. I AM PISSED OFF! We have honest to goodness boobs running the country. The left hand isn't talking to the right. There is so much idiocy I want to vomit. Geithner doesn't even have a full staff working. He didn't pay HIS taxes but we are supposed to pay ours PLUS a whole lot more. For goodness sake my unborn grandchild is in debt! How crazy is that? This doesn't seem like the America of just a few years ago. I'm angry. I'm sad. I'm upset. I'm in shock. I AM PISSED OFF. I can hardly wait until 2010 so I can vote some buffoons out of office and I am itching to vote in the next REPUBLICAN president. How about running this country according to the principals it was built?

I'm just going to copy/paste let Stephen Ohlemacher, Associated Press Writer tell you what is happening. UNBELIEVABLE!!!

Stephen worte this article and I found it on Yahoo Finance.....

INSIDE WASHINGTON: Taxpayers to get rude surprise
INSIDE WASHINGTON: Millions of couples, retirees may have to repay some of Obama tax credit

Stephen Ohlemacher, Associated Press Writer
On Thursday April 30, 2009, 6:55 pm EDT

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Millions of Americans enjoying their small windfall from President Barack Obama's "Making Work Pay" tax credit are in for an unpleasant surprise next spring.

The government is going to want some of that money back.

The tax credit is supposed to provide up to $400 to individuals and $800 to married couples as part of the massive economic recovery package enacted in February. Most workers started receiving the credit through small increases in their paychecks in the past month.

But new tax withholding tables issued by the IRS could cause millions of taxpayers to get hundreds of dollars more than they are entitled to under the credit, money that will have to be repaid at tax time.

At-risk taxpayers include a broad swath of the public: married couples in which both spouses work; workers with more than one job; retirees who have federal income taxes withheld from their pension payments and Social Security recipients with jobs that provide taxable income.

The Internal Revenue Service acknowledges problems with the withholding tables but has done little to warn average taxpayers.

"They need to get the Goodyear blimp out there on this," said Tom Ochsenschlager, vice president of taxation for the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

For many, the new tax tables will simply mean smaller-than-expected tax refunds next year, IRS spokesman Terry Lemons said. The average refund was nearly $2,700 this year.

But taxpayers who calculate their withholding so they get only small refunds could face an unwelcome tax bill next April, said Jackie Perlman, an analyst with the Tax Institute at H&R Block.

"They are going to get a surprise," she said.

Perlman's advice: check your federal withholding to make sure sufficient taxes are being taken out of your pay. If you are married and both spouses work, you might consider having taxes withheld at the higher rate for single filers. If you have multiple jobs, you might consider having extra taxes withheld by one of your employers. You can make that request with a Form W-4.

The IRS has a calculator on its Web site to help taxpayers figure withholding. So do many private tax preparers.

Obama has touted the tax credit as one of the big achievements of his first 100 days in office, boasting that 95 percent of working families will qualify in 2009 and 2010.

The credit pays workers 6.2 percent of their earned income, up to a maximum of $400 for individuals and $800 for married couples who file jointly. Individuals making more $95,000 and couples making more than $190,000 are ineligible.

The tax credit was designed to help boost the economy by getting more money to consumers in their regular paychecks. Employers were required to start using the new withholding tables by April 1.

The tables, however, don't take into account several common categories of taxpayers, experts said.

For example:

--A single worker with two jobs making $20,000 a year at each job will get a $400 boost in take-home pay at each of them, for a total of $800. That worker, however, is eligible for a maximum credit of $400, so the remaining $400 will have to be paid back at tax time -- either through a smaller refund or a payment to the IRS.

The IRS recognized there could be a similar problem for married couples if both spouses work, so it adjusted the withholding tables. The fix, however, was imperfect.

-- A married couple with a combined income of $50,000 is eligible for an $800 credit. However, if both spouses work and make more than $13,000, the new withholding tables give them each a $600 boost -- for a total of $1,200.

There were 33 million married couples in 2008 in which both spouses worked. That's 55 percent of all married couples, according to the Census Bureau.

-- A single college student with a part-time job making $10,000 would get a $400 boost in pay. However, if that student is claimed as a dependent on a parent's tax return, she doesn't qualify for the credit and would have to repay it when she files next year.

Some retirees face even bigger headaches.

The Social Security Administration is sending out $250 payments to more than 50 million retirees in May as part of the economic stimulus package. The payments will go to people who receive Social Security, Supplemental Security Income, railroad retirement benefits or veteran's disability benefits.

The payments are meant to provide a boost for people who don't qualify for the tax credit. However, they will go to retirees even if they have earned income and receive the credit. Those retirees will have the $250 payment deducted from their tax credit -- but not until they file their tax returns next year, long after the money may have been spent.

Retirees who have federal income taxes withheld from pension benefits also are getting an income boost as a result of the new withholding tables. However, pension benefits are not earned income, so they don't qualify for the tax credit. That money will have to paid back next year when tax returns are filed.

More than 20 million retirees and survivors receive payments from defined benefit pension plans, according to the Employee Benefit Research Institute. However, it is unclear how many have federal taxes withheld from their payments.

The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees union raised concerns about the effect of the tax credit on pension payments in a letter to Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner in March.

Geithner responded that Treasury and IRS understood the concerns and were "exploring ways to mitigate that effect."

Rep. Dave Camp of Michigan, the top Republican on the tax-writing House Ways and Means Committee, said Geithner has yet to respond to concerns raised by committee members.

"So far we've got the, 'If we don't address this maybe it will go away' approach," Camp said.

Boost Your Income or Keep Your Money - $13 NOT Needed

Below is a list of ways you can either boost your income or keep your money in your wallet.

  • Log every cent you spend and then look at where the fat is.
  • Stop charging. If you can't pay cash, you don't need it. Declare a no charge month. You'll be shocked.
  • Stop buying. Declare a no buy month other than items you have no choice about purchasing like car gas, enough food to live, necessary medicines etc.
  • Pay attention to your bank statement. If you have ATM charges, shame on you. Get cash over someplace you shop. Run in and buy a pack of gum, a Sunday paper w/coupons and get cash over.
  • Call all of your credit card companies and ask for a lower interest rate.
  • Call your cable company and negotiate a new monthly fee for cable or turn it off. Keep only the Internet if you must. You can see most anything online.
  • If you have a cell phone, turn your wired line off. We've not had a wired line for 10 years.
  • Use the library for renting movies - FOR FREE!
  • Brown bag your lunch and drinks for work/school.
  • Drive 5 MPH slower than the posted speed. Just stay in the slow lane.
  • Call your insurance companies and see about getting lower rates or higher deductibles.
  • Consider submitting a new W-4 form if you got a tax refund this year. Put more in your take home pay and then save it.
  • Have a yard/garage sale.
  • Get a second job or do odd jobs.
  • Barter goods or services where you can.
  • Pay your bills online and save postage. We've done this for 15 years and it is as safe as sending it via the USPS.
  • Repurpose or reuse everything possible and bank the savings.
  • Stop using paper towels and use cloth.
  • SHARE everything you can with others who are like minded. Think about movie, music, lawn tools, tools, auto repair, babysitting, etc.
  • Carpool
  • Enjoy the party plans - Get a group of folks together and make a list of all the items you each need. If you can't give what you don't want to another, decide on co-hosting or hosting parties for Tupperware, etc. You get what you want and have fun with friends, family and neighbors at the same time.
  • Sell items on eBay.
  • Make a meal plan and then inventory your pantry or cabinets. Add only items to your grocery list that you must have to make it for a week, 2 wks or a month. Any overage in you budget should be spent on items that are on sale and that you have a matching coupon. Work to stock up on everything so that within 3 months you are only buying items on sale with coupons or on clearance with coupons.
  • Use coupons for restaurants.
I'm sure you can think of others. Leave your ideas in the comments. :)

Here's 2 Ideas for You That Are CHEAP!

I don't want you to install these in your home but they will work well in a workshop. If you caulked around these "light" bottles, they'd probably not leak for a good while. Just proves that necessity IS the mother of invention.

What this story did not tell you is that something very similar helps keep the flies and insects away from your doors. I've seen people fill zip lock bags (qt size) and hang from a small hook. The water dancing around in the bag reflects and drives insects away.

Thermostats

This tip can be completely free if you just walk over to the thermostat and move the temp. In the winter, you can save huge amounts of cash by setting your temp to 65-68 and putting on a sweater and a pair of slippers. In the summer you can do the same by setting the temps to 76-78 and turning on a ceiling fan or table top fan.

If you are willing to spend a little cash and read some instructions, the best way to save loads of cash is to purchase a set back thermostat. The theory behind this is to program it to run your A/C or heater less when you are asleep or out of the house.  The cost on this type of thermostat varies widely. I selected the one below based on the ability to program it for a 5 day/2 day setting. There are others that give you the ability to program specifically for each day of the week.

Technical Details
  • Large backlit display with soft-touch button interface
  • Precise temperature control of +/-1-degreesF with auto change from heat to cool.
  • Energy Star Rated 5-2 programming with 4 programmable periods per day
  • Programming for weekdays, plus weekends.
  • Compatible with most heating and cooling systems

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Product Description From the Manufacturer

A Honeywell programmable thermostat can save you up to 33% off your energy bill. You set it up to adjust the temperature when you are away or asleep--times when you don't necessarily need to heat or cool your home to optimum comfort--and your heating and cooling equipment runs less. The RTH2310B thermostat's blue backlight is easy to read, even in dimly lit hallways and rooms. The early start function on this thermostat begins the heating/cooling of your home prior to your programmed times for maximum comfort.

Product Description

Five 2 Day Programmable Thermostat, With 4 Program Periods Per Day, Backlit Display, Controls Temperature to +/- 1 Degree of Set Point, Filter Change Indicator, Energy Star Rated.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Save $13.00 for 3 weeks and reap approximately 33% savings on your energy bill.

Clean Your Dryer Lint Trap and Vent Hose

Do you even know how old your dryer vent hose might be? Is it plastic? If so, you have yourself a fire hazard on your hands. Get in the car now, go someplace and get an aluminum vent hose kit. They come in varying lengths, so know how many feet you need. Five foot is the shortest I've seen but that is a good thing. Get more if you need it. No arguing. You can than me later when you come home to replace it and see what a horrible nightmare it is behind your dryer.

Supply list: vacuum, vac tools, slotted screw driver, dryer vent cleaning kit, vent hose, 2 vent hose clamps and possibly a through the wall vent kit (this is how the air exits your house)

Have you ever washed your lint trap? Well now you will after you hear this. Fabric softner will build up on the screen and shrink the holes. What does that do? It makes your dryer run longer. That increases your power bill (gas or electric) and decreases the length of life on the dryer. So yank that puppy out and go to a large sink. Get some super hot water in the sink and add a nice dollup of dish soap. My fave is Dawn because it will clean up Alaskan crude. (Remember the Valdez oil spill?) Let it soak and take a bristle brush and scrub until clean. When rinsed, water should flow through the screen and no pile up on top as if trapped.
DRY WELL!

Unplug your dryer if it is electric. Drag up your vacuum cleaner and be prepared for it to fill up either the bag or the dirt/dust recepticle. Some dryers allow for the front panel under the door to be lifted and removed. If yours allows for this, take it off and vacuum out. You may even find loose change, nails, screws, buttons or lost socks under there. Pull out from the wall and tilt the dryer back (you may need help here so round up another body). Vacuum under the dryer -- floor and bottom of dryer. Lower when done and pull it out far enough you can get behind it to vacuum. Vacuum the floor, baseboards, wall under a shelf/cabinet if you have that. VAC EVERYTHING!

Next, use this wonderful cleaning kit for your dryer. It is one of those items like the refrigerator coil brush that will be reused for many, many years to come. You can share it with your neighbors, family, friends. Heck even ask them if they'll pitch in to help pay for it.

Finish cleaning everything according to the directions in the kit. Reconnect the hose, the power cord and push the dryer back being careful not to pinch off or crush the hose blocking off the air flow. Pack everything up and put away and your next power/gas bill should be lower. The run time for a load should be shorter.

As you can see, not everything can be done for a flat Thirteen Bucks. But you can apply those thirteen bucks you get weekly towards these projects and soon enough you should see savings start to add up. You'll likely have less work to clean too once these projects are complete.

Clean Coils On Refrigeration Units

What does THAT mean? If you have a refrigerator, you have coils. If you have a freezer (stand alone) you have coils. This also includes air conditioner, stand alone ice makers, small refrigerators and dehumidifiers that have a compressor in it that cools air.

The coils are to be treated with great care. The "fins" or "blades" that are around the copper tubing is easily bent. So don't go jamming your vacuum cleaner hose and crevice tool up under your refrigerator. You'll likely punch a hole in the coil and the freon will leak out. That equals no more cool air.

Fear not! There is a very simple tool that will do the job. It is a refrigeration coil brush.

Simple to use since all you do is remove the grill on the front of the refrigerator. Take out the drip pan. Sometimes you have to lift or even unsnap the drip pan and pull out. Be prepared for it to be a stinking mess. It might be smart to have a place prepared to take it outside so you can scrub and hose it down. It may smell horribly and it may even have mold in it. Another reason to clean it since every time the fan on the refrigerator turns on it blows air across this drip pan spewing the mold spores and stinky air into the room.

Grab your vacuum and have it handy for the actual coil cleaning. Next, feed the brush under the refrigerator as straight and level as possible. Once you have it under, gently turn and rotate to grab the dust bunnies. Slowly remove the coil brush and use vacuum to clean the brush. Repeat until the brush is exiting clean.

Scrub up the drip pan and the grill and replace. Go to your email calendar and put in a reoccuring reminder to do this every couple of months. Make it part of your cleaning routine around the house and you will SIGNIFICANTLY lower your electric bill. The refrigerator is one of the biggest hogs of electricity in the entire house. While you are at it, clean the gaskets on the doors and dry thoroughly. You'll get a better seal and the gaskets will last longer. :-)

PS-- You didn't spend $13 on this item.
